Instagram Launches Map Features To Share Locations Easily

JAKARTA After launching a repost feature like TikTok, Instagram is now introducing an interactive map similar to Snapchat's. Through this feature, users can share locations with friends.

This map feature is a new way for Instagram users to interact. Users can now share their last active location with the desired friends, of course with accounts that have followed each other.

Before using this feature, users must activate the map first. Given that this feature is related to the user's personal location, the account owner will have full control regarding who can see their location.

Location sharing options include friends (followers you re-follow), Close friends, or just certain people. Users also have full control to customize the map sharing experience.

If this feature is active, the location will be updated every time the user opens or returns to the Instagram application, similar to the commonly shared location application. Users can disable the feature whenever they want.

Apart from being a location sharing tool, the map also functions as a content browsing tool. Users can view Reels, feeds, and Stories content from people they follow by specific location. This content will be available 24 hours after upload.

To maximize experience, Instagram also includes Notes into the map. Notes can be seen by friends with a duration of 24 hours. This provides opportunities for users to find and interact with content from interesting places.

For parents, Instagram provides greater control regarding this feature. Parents will receive notifications when their children begin sharing locations and parents can determine whether their teenage children have access to this feature and who can see its location.
