Meta Contributes IDR 15.8 Billion To Donald Trump's Inauguration Fund

JAKARTA - Meta Platforms Inc., a technology company led by Mark Zuckerberg, has donated $1 million to support the inauguration of United States President-elect Donald Trump. This information was confirmed by a spokesperson for Meta.

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, this donation is considered an unusual move, considering Zuckerberg had previously not publicly supported Trump or Joe Biden in this year's election. In a media interview before Biden stepped down as a candidate from the Democratic Party, Zuckerberg also confirmed his neutral stance.

However, Zuckerberg recently praised Trump's reaction to the assassination attempt on July 13, calling it "one of the most devastating things I've ever seen." This effort is seen as Zuckerberg's approach to attracting conservative users' attention.

Zuckerberg was also reported to have met with Trump at the end of November, after the election was over. This meeting was touted as a strategic step by the Meta CEO to build better relations with the elected president.

Relations between Trump and Meta previously experienced tensions, especially after the 2020 presidential election. Trump accused Meta of limiting content harming Biden during elections, as well as criticizing Zuckerberg's donation used to support election infrastructure.

After the riots in the Capitol in January 2021, Meta even suspended Trump's Facebook and Instagram accounts for two years.

This latest donation from Meta marks a significant change in the dynamics of the relationship between Zuckerberg and Trump, as well as Meta's strategic steps amid America's growing political landscape.
