JAKARTA - Snap Inc announced on Monday, June 5 that it has recruited a senior vice president of engineering from Google, as the latest step in recruiting new personnel to develop their advertising business.

Eric Young, who previously served as vice president of engineering at Alphabet Inc's Google Cloud, will oversee core infrastructure for Snap, a company that has a popular photo messaging app, Snapchat.

It will also lead efforts to enhance Snap's ability to target and measure ads on Snapchat, which are becoming more difficult due to privacy updates on Apple's iOS devices.

While Snap has consistently increased the number of Snapchat users, which currently have 750 million monthly users, the company is experiencing difficulties in generating revenue at the same speed.

In April, Snap announced that it was taking steps to simplify user interactions with ads and increase the relevance of displayed ads to users, which it said had disrupted the results for some advertisers in the short term.

While working on Google, Young was involved in building technology infrastructure for products such as search, advertising, and YouTube.

Young's appointment at Snap came after the company recruited Rob Hark, a former chief advertising officer at Microsoft Corp as president of the United States, as well as another Google executive to lead revenue products.
