JAKARTA - WhatsApp launched a new global Security Center page, which acts as a one-stop window for users who want to learn more about how to protect themselves from fraud.
On the page, WhatsApp introduces various features that it has so that users can prevent unwanted spammers and contacts.
Through this feature, the company wants to notify users of various precautions that can be taken to protect their accounts and privacy.
"Protecting private messages with end-to-end encryption is one of the best defensive lines against scammers and fraudsters, and besides that, WhatsApp is consistently working on new and innovative ways to improve people's security and privacy," WhatsApp said in its official blog, quoted Monday, June 5.
The Meta-owned messaging app also asks users to add additional layers of protection to prevent hackers and fraudsters from stealing their accounts and data.
For example, users can activate two-step verification by setting up secret pins and never sharing them with anyone to prevent others from stealing their accounts.
WhatsApp also emphasizes users to use the official WhatsApp application. This is because fake versions have the potential to pose a serious risk to the privacy and security of user accounts and data.
Users are also required to control who can add them to the group and who can join the group. In addition, users can also delete members or messages if needed.
Most importantly, users must also recognize frequent frauds and actions they can take to protect themselves. They can report suspicious messages, people, or businesses.
"(This) can help us keep WhatsApp safe for everyone. Don't worry, we won't tell the sender," WhatsApp said.
"If you receive unwanted messages from someone, just block those users and we will make sure you no longer receive messages or calls from them."
