JAKARTA US law enforcers, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) recently announced a new form of crypto fraud, namely by opening up vacancies for fake jobs to trap victims.

The FBI is sniffing out crypto scams related to labor trafficking syndicates in Southeast Asia. The perpetrators carried out their actions by using a employment fraud scheme to ensnare people, detain and intimidate victims of crypto fraud.

"Criminals target victims, especially in Asia, in employment fraud schemes by posting advertisements for fake job vacancies on social media and online job vacancies sites," the FBI announced.

The perpetrators of crime opened various job vacancies positions. They include various positions offered including call center customer service, beauty salon technicians, and so on.

Fake debt raids

Prospective victims in this context are job seekers who are usually offered competitive salaries, lucrative allowances, travel costs to countries where companies operate will be paid, and are promised a place to live and a share of food. The FBI reveals, often the location of companies offering jobs moving from advertised initial locations.

"Arriving in foreign countries, criminals used various means to force them to carry out cryptocurrency investment schemes, such as confiscation of travel passports and documents, threats of violence, and the use of violence," the FBI said in a statement quoted by DailyHodl.

Not only that, but the perpetrators are also reportedly able to control the victims by burdening them with false debts. The fake debt comes from travel expenses borne by fake companies. The perpetrators of fraud also threatened the victim with a prison sentence for having debts that could not be repaid, causing fear.

Traded victims are sometimes sold and moved from one place to another, which further adds to their debt burden, the FBI said.
