JAKARTA - Bytedance, the parent company of TikTok from China, reported by the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday 10 May has postponed the launch of their shopping platform in the United States. This cites sources familiar with the matter.
The app is facing growing pressure from Washington, including calls to ban it by many members of Congress who fear US user data could fall into the hands of the Chinese government.
The delay from early spring to June comes as concerns about the future of this short video platform may prevent sellers from joining the shopping platform, the report said.
TikTok announced in March that it has 150 million monthly active users in the United States, an increase from 100 million in 2020. They have not yet responded to a request for comment from Reuters.
Last week, the video platform announced the launch of a product that would allow advertisers to place ads alongside content created by premium publishers, which would share half of the ad revenue.
