IPhone Will Made In India After Foxconn Disburses IDR 10.6 Trillion For New Factory

JAKARTA - One of Apple's largest suppliers and major iPhone component manufacturer, Foxconn will build a new factory in Karnataka state, India.

A total of 700 million US dollars (Rp10.6 trillion) will be used to establish the new production facility near the southern Indian city of Bengaluru with an area of 300 hectares.

Bengaluru is often considered one of India's leading engineering and technology centers. In addition to producing the iPhone, the new Foxconn plant is also rumored to make Apple's mixed reality headset currently under development.

In fact, Foxconn also plans to invest heavily in the semiconductor sector. In a tweet, Foxconn confirmed his plans for India.

"To build an ecosystem in India that allows all of our stakeholders to share, collaborate and develop," the company tweeted, as quoted by Slashgear, Saturday, March 4.

If all goes according to plan, the new Foxconn facility could be one of the largest Apple manufacturing facilities outside China, number two after the large iPhone facility in Zhengzhou that employed nearly 200,000 people, and closed during the large wave of COVID-19 that hit China in 2022.

Moreover, Apple's future goal is also to move 25 percent of its iPhone production to India by 2025. Apple is also looking at Vietnam as an alternative to China.

Although currently no iPhone is made in Vietnam, the location quickly emerged as the ideal location for producing products such as Apple AirPods and other accessories.
