JAKARTA - Intel and Microsoft are reportedly preparing the latest Operational System (OS), Windows 12. Its development instructions are currently widely circulated on social media, although both have not provided an official statement.

A reliable leaker, @leaf_hobby, revealed information about the Intel Meteor Lake desktop platform which is claimed to support Windows 12. A rumor also said that Windows 12 will focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI).

This was reinforced by the head of marketing for Microsoft consumers, Yusuf Mehdi recently stated that there would be potential AI in the Windows experience.

Starting in Windows 11 includes AI-powered features such as Bing integration and recommended content for business users. Microsoft is also reportedly working on the AI-powered smart stun feature for Windows 11.

Launching The Verge, Friday, March 3, if Microsoft really plans to use the next version of the AI in its OS more broadly, companies need to work closely with hardware partners such as Intel and AMD.

The goal, of course, is to optimize chips that can handle AI workloads. That might explain why Intel reportedly mentioned Windows 12 internally.

For information, AMD recently launched a Ryzen 7000 mobile processor equipped with the first x86 chip containing a dedicated AI engine that could support Microsoft Windows Studio Effects.

These features, including background noise removal and eye contact, are usually only available for Arm-powered hardware that can run features with a dedicated neural processing unit (NPU).

Both AMD and Intel are racing to pursue Apple and its newest M2 chip, which is equipped with AI specifically to handle 15.8 trillion operations per second.

Microsoft has reportedly switched to a three-year release cycle for Windows, meaning the next major version of Windows will mature in 2024.
