JAKARTA - Apple took steps differently from others when it found the ChatGPT technology embedded in an application that uses its services. The company blocked it.

Update to the BlueMail email app, which uses a special version of OpenAI's GPT-3 language model, was immediately blocked by the iPhone maker. He reasoned, worried that the app would not filter content properly for young audiences.

BlueMail, developed by New Jersey-based Blix Inc, uses OpenAI's ChatGPT to create emails for users based on their previous calendar content and data.

Getting unsuitable treatment from Apple, Blix also told The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) had received an email from Apple saying the app had been blocked because it appeared not to include current content filtering.

"Apple has postponed approval of email app updates with AI-powered language tools for fear it could produce inappropriate content for children," Blix co-founder Ben Volach.

The technology giant from Cupertino, USA then gave Blix a choice, improved the process of filtering its content or increased its minimum age limit from four to 17 years.

Volach said his company actually uses content filters and claims Apple's demand for age restrictions is unfair and will harm its business.

"Apple makes it difficult for us to bring innovation to our users. We want justice. If we are required to be 17 years old and over, then others must also do it," said Volach.

One of the founders of Blix has previously filed an antitrust lawsuit against Apple in 2019 following the removal of previous apps from the platform.

In response to the WSJ, Apple stated that it was investigating Blix complaints, and showed the developer's ability to appeal to the App Review Board. The company did not comment on claims other AI applications had been allowed to enter without age limit, as quoted from 9to5Mac, Friday, March 3.
