JAKARTA - According to the latest data from GSMA Intelligence during the 2023 Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona shows that 5G connections are expected to double in the next two years.

As of January 2023, GSMA revealed that there are 229 commercial 5G networks globally and more than 700 5G smartphone models available to users.

With the acceleration of current technological innovation, GSMA estimates that the deployment of the new 5G network will be available in more than 30 countries by 2023 alone. And from the new network that will be used in 2023, 15 of them are expected to be a 5G Stallone network.

Until now, 5G adoption has been driven by a relatively mature market and consumer use cases such as upgraded mobile broadband, but that has changed. We are now entering the second wave for 5G to see this technology involving a variety of new markets and audiences," said Peter Jarich, Head of GSMA Intelligence in a statement on the official website of MWC 2023.

By the end of 2022, the world's consumer connections exceed one billion, and will increase to about 1.5 billion this year, before reaching two billion by the end of 2025. This momentum confirms 5G as the fastest generation launch, when compared to 3G and 4G.

The expansion to new use cases and markets will challenge the mobile ecosystem to prove that 5G is really flexible enough to meet these diverse demands in an inclusive and innovative way, added Jarich.

Furthermore, the growth of this 5G connection will come from the main markets in APAC and LATAM, such as Brazil and India, which have just launched a 5G network. In fact, GSMA Intelligence estimates there will be four 5G networks in India by the end of 2025, accounting for an additional 145 million users.

On the other hand, many of the new markets are scheduled to launch 5G networks by 2023, including developing areas across Africa, including Ethiopia and Ghana, and Asia.
