JAKARTA - The GSMA or the Global System for Mobile Communications Association at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 event announced a new initiative called the GSMA Open Gateway, a universal network Application Programmable Interfaces (APIs) framework, designed to provide universal access to the operator network for developers.
GSMA Open Gateway, which was launched with the support of 21 mobile network operators, is a new step that represents paradigm changes in the way the telecommunications industry designs and provides services in the API economy world.
Badminton L\"erez, Chairman of the GSMA Council and Chairman & CEO of Telefkahica in a statement on the official website of MWC Barcelona said that the GSMA Open Gateway would allow one access point to the ultra-broadband network and provide catalysts for immersive technology and Web3, giving them the ability to meet their potential and reach a critical period.

"By implementing the concept of interconnection for operators to the API economy, developers can take advantage of other technologies as well as services such as identity, cybersecurity, or billing, but with the potential to integrate with every operator around the world," said Mats Granryd, Director General of GSMA.
Furthermore, Granryd said that the GSMA Open Gateway will help cloud developers and providers improve and deploy their services more quickly through one access point to the operator network.
On the other hand, Ishwar Parulkar, Chief Technologist for the Telco Industry at Amazon Web Services (AWS) said, GSMA Open Gateway is an important step in enriching cloud developer experience. Developers who use more than 200 AWS services will also be able to take advantage of API from telecommunications operators. Thus, enabling the developer community to create new applications.
"In Microsoft, we focus on expanding the distributed computing structure from cloud to edge, along with our operator partners," said Satya Nadella, Chair and CEO, Microsoft. "We look forward to bringing the GSMA Open Gateway initiative to Microsoft Azure, to empower developers and help operators monetize their 5G investment value."
