JAKARTA - Alphabet's Google on Wednesday 8 February said it would increase search results with a generating AI feature, in its latest salvo against Microsoft, which laid out plans the day before to upgrade its rival search engine Bing.

Microsoft hopes the new features can revive its Bing platform and try to dominate Google in online searches that encourage a lucrative advertising business to generate $100 billion in sales last year.

According to Google, adding a generating AI to search results will make text or visual responses to requests and allow users to interact with information in a completely new way.

"As we continue to bring generative AI technology into our product, the only limit to search is your imagination," said Google Senior Deputy Prabhakar Raghavan, at an event in Paris.

It was Google's second announcement this week. On Monday 6 February, he launched his chatbot service Bard, but the launch faced problems as Google's own online ads showed ARD provided inaccurate answers.

Analysts say Google will hope to prevent users from turning to Bing's rivals.

San Francisco-based OpenAI, backed by Microsoft, opened chatbot ChatGPT for free public testing in November. Its popularity soared in days and Microsoft now plans to use the technology to power its Bing search engine.

Google's advertising business is Alphabet's biggest producer so far, accounting for about 80% of the company's annual revenue.

Microsoft said it expects every percentage point of its market share to generate another $2 billion in search ad revenue.

As the use of artificial intelligence increases, the European Union prepares to regulate it, through its AI Act.

In addition to the search, Google is also showing off a lot of improvements to the Map, indoor display, image search, and translation -- all using artificial intelligence in some form.

"AI also makes it much more natural to understand and explore the real world," said Raghavan.
