Android Users Will Be Able To Enable Lockdown In Chrome With Incognito Mode

JAKARTA - Google is rolling out a feature for new chrome to Android, which allows users to add extra privacy layers while browsing in Incognito mode.

In a blog post shared on Thursday, January 26 by Andrew Kamau Product Manager, Chrome, said that the ability to lock Chrome Incognito tabs behind biometric authentication on mobile phones is currently heading to Android users.

"You can require biometric authentication while continuing a disconnected cover session. It is available to all Chrome users on iOS and is currently rolling out to Android users," Kamau said.

When this feature is enabled, you must verify your identity via facial authentication or fingerprint whenever you want to return to the Cover up tab after exiting Chrome or exiting another app.

This Lock Incognito feature was first introduced to Android users in 2022, one year after Google tested it for iPhone and iPad first.

How to activate this feature is quite easy, you just need to do:

Based on the 9to5Google experience of trying this feature on Android last year, this feature will feature a gray screen with the Incognito logo in the middle when you return to a tab protected by privacy features.

You then have to tap "Open Identification Lock" to open biometric authentication or choose to verify your identity with the PIN code.
