JAKARTA - Ahead of Data Privacy Day which falls on January 28, Meta shares its work in maintaining privacy with company technology for those using its apps.

The renewal of the Meta Privacy Progress is published every year to demonstrate the technical and operational improvements we have made. This latest version includes details on privacy governance, privacy controls that consumers face, and innovative privacy solutions such as privacy awareness infrastructure.

Building Educational Devices

Last year, Meta launched the Privacy Center together with an easier-to-understand Privacy Policy to give people a place where they can learn more about the company's approach to privacy across its apps and technologies. The Privacy Center is now fully available on Facebook.

Meta has also added two new modules to the Center for Privacy that focus on security and also on privacy for teens, where people can learn about the particular protections we offer young people.

Giving Persons Control

Meta always tells its users to review some settings about their privacy. That way, everyone can apply privacy options according to their needs.

Protects Youth Privacy

In November last year, Meta introduced updates on Facebook and Instagram to protect teens online. Now, everyone under the age of 16 (or under 18 years in a certain country) will be set by default to a more private setting as they join Facebook.

Earlier this year, the company then further restricted the options advertisers have to reach out to teens. Age and location will be the only information about a teenager who will be used to show them ads.

Applying for Personal Messages

Meta has introduced a number of new privacy features on WhatsApp to give you more control. You can now leave group messages without telling anyone else, selecting who can see while you're online and prevent screenshots on View Messages Once.

Likewise in Messenger, Meta has previously announced new product features for your end-to-end encrypted chat, as well as increased testing for end-to-end default encryption.

Prioritize Privacy when Building Metaverse

Metaverse presents an opportunity for companies to build privacy into new technology from the bottom up. To that end, Meta has collaborated with experts in academia, civil rights groups, and industry organizations to help ensure we innovate in this new space responsibly. This guides the development of our features such as eye tracking and Natural Face Expressions at our Meta Quest Pro virtual reality headset.
