JAKARTA - Kaspersky researchers discovered a new phishing by cybercriminals amid the boom in the launch of the TV series The Last of Us on Sunday, January 15.

This series is an adaptation of the game which has the same title. In the midst of the rise of viewers of The Last of Us, it is not uncommon for most of them to be curious about the appearance of the game.

Unfortunately, the players still have to wait until March 3, 2023 for the exclusive launch of The Last of Us on PlayStation 5.

Surprisingly, now instead of offering pre-access to the series, cybercriminals have chosen different paths and distributed malicious files under the guise of a game, "said Olga Svistunova, security expert at Kaspersky in a statement received in Jakarta.

According to him, this shows that gamers, especially beginners, don't know enough about cybersecurity while playing, are among the main target audiences of cybercriminals, and they will find more ways to exploit it.

Due to the rise of fraud, Kaspersky provides several recommendations needed by users so that they are not easily deceived by fake sites under the guise of a game.

"Be alert and check if the games you've been waiting for are available on the platform offered, download games just from official app stores and don't forget to use trusted security solutions," Olga said.
