JAKARTA - Full screen mode is reported to have appeared in the short TikTok video app. One user sees a new full screen button option on the regular square and rectangular videos.

The new feature is currently only available to a small group of users, TikTok videos can be seen in landscape format as YouTube has, providing a more immersive viewing experience for users.

With this new feature, it indicates TikTok continues to increase its popularity, where it now has more than 2.6 billion downloads worldwide in November 2022.

The new horizontal full-screen mode is expected to attract users who prefer to watch videos on their smartphones for a longer time. If this full screen mode is present later, it means that content creators should be able to create optimized videos for that format.

TikTok is known to compete fiercely with YouTube, and the presence of the new feature makes it closer to Google's video streaming platform.

What distinguishes TikTok and YouTube is its focus on portrait videos, where content creators should create separate videos between the two apps, leveraging the power of different platforms.

Earlier this year alone, TikTok expanded its video length to a maximum of 10 minutes, after testing it for years. So it's no surprise to see the company launch a full-screen horizontal mode, especially for the duration of the video that long.

TikTok is increasingly offering more than just short videos, but competitors like Instagram and YouTube have both launched similar formats on Reels and Shorts. Snapchat even offers Spotlight, a tab in the Snapchat app that offers short-form video content.

For information quoted from The Verge, Thursday, December 15, TikTok's testing for horizontal full-screen mode follows a trial of the TikTok Shop feature in an application that has been waiting for a long-awaited time.

TikTok Shop will allow users to buy products without leaving the app, and has been launched in areas such as the United States (US) and Indonesia.
