Apple Battalioned The Detection Feature Of Sexual Harassment Materials For Children, Why?

The tool for detecting child sexual abuse material or CSAM on Apple's iPhone, iPad and iCloud Photos, was canceled. Previously, this feature also received a lot of criticism.

This week, Apple has decided not to proceed with the CSAM detection feature they made a previous plan for iCloud Photos.

"Children can be protected without the company combing through personal data, and we will continue to work closely with governments, child advocates, and other companies to help protect young people, safeguard their privacy rights, and make the internet a safer place for children and for us. all," said Apple.

Apple first announced the CSAM detection feature in 2021, with the aim of helping to combat child exploitation and promote safety, an issue the tech community is growing.

However, the plan immediately received protests from privacy and security experts. They argue the CSAM detection feature could eventually be reused to hunt for other types of content.

Launching CNN International, Friday, December 9, in announcing the cancellation of the CSAM detection feature, the company will refocus its efforts to develop the Communication Safety feature, which was first available in December 2021.

The Communication Safety feature is a parental control tool to warn children under North Sumatra when attachments of images that enter or are sent to iMessage are sexually explicit. Then, that feature will blur it.

Apple's announcement of canceling its plans for the CSAM scanning feature comes at the same time as the company launched several new security features.

As previously reported, Apple plans to expand its iCloud data end-to-end encryption to include backups, photos, records, chat history, and other services, in steps that can further protect user data.

Dubbed Advanced Data Protection, this tool will allow users to store certain data more securely than hackers, governments, and spies, even in cases of Apple data breaches.
