JAKARTA - The Pentagon on Wednesday, December 7 awarded a cloud computing contract worth US$9 billion (Rp140.5 trillion) each to Alphabet Inc's Google, Amazon Web Services Inc, Microsoft Corp and Oracle Corp.
The contract, which runs until 2028, will provide the Department of Defense for cloud services globally available and on a company scale across the security domain and classification levels.
The move comes months after the Pentagon postponed its decision to award a Joint Warfighting Cloud CAPability (JWCC) contract across the company earlier this year.
The deal puts the military more in line with private sector companies, many of whom share their cloud computing work among some vendors to avoid attachment to certain vendors.
Through this contract, the Pentagon hopes that the security of their data is safe and not penetrated by any hacking attacks. This contract also shows the Pentagon's trust in the local cloud computing industry.
