JAKARTA - YouTube is starting to launch a special emote, which is similar to Twitch's custom emote. This new feature is an attempt by the platform to give users another way to interact with their favorite content creators.

Dubbed YouTube Emotes, this feature can be used throughout YouTube in the comments section and during live chats.

Previously, YouTube had also allowed each streamer to offer their own reaction icons and emotes.

For starters, YouTube presents a set of game emotes designed by Abelle Hayford, Guy Field, and Yujin Won, more emotes with other themes will be presented in the future.

"We started with an emote made for Gaming, but are trying to bring more emote themes in the future, so keep an eye on the emotes for more communities," YouTube said on its community page.

Using custom emotes on YouTube works almost the same as using emojis, and users can access all available YouTube Emotes by clicking the emoji icon in live chats or comments.

In addition, YouTube Emotes also has a special name that users can type to be equipped automatically in live chats, so they can get faster access.

For example, users can type ":cat-orange-whistling:" in live chat while watching streaming to use custom emotes with orange cats.

Reporting from The Verge, Wednesday, December 7, it is currently unclear whether YouTube will allow content creators to issue their own custom emotes on the platform. However, the company states users can see new emotes from independent artists in the future.
