More Than 1.3 Million People Learn Ukrainian In The Duolingo App Since Invasion Of Russia, This Is The Reason

JAKARTA - The language learning application Duolingo Inc announced on Tuesday December that more than 1.3 million people use Ukrainian as language to study following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February. This was done to show their solidarity.

The report said people studying Ukrainian in Germany and Poland rose more than 1,600% compared to last year.

The invasion of Russia into Ukraine has plunged Europe into its biggest land war since the Second World War. The war sparked a conflict that has killed thousands of people, destroyed Ukrainian cities, and damaged the global economy.

Duolingo Inc. said the growth of Ukrainian language learners in the UK is now growing up 20 places to 17th in the most popular language on their app.

Ukraine is also growing the fastest in countries far from conflict such as Argentina, Vietnam and Japan, said a Duolingo source, quoted by Reuters. Ireland topped the list of countries with the largest growth in people learning Ukrainian.

Interest in Ukraine surged in the first few weeks after tensions began and peaked in late March, but stabilized throughout the remainder of the year.

Meanwhile, Ukrainians are also trying to learn foreign languages such as Germany and England as the situation makes millions of people flee to other countries.
