JAKARTA MetaMask is a leading crypto wallet developed by ConsenSys. The company announced user data including IP Address and consumer Ethereum wallet address.

The announcement was made on November 23 in a company policy revision. The company notified MetaMask users that it would collect data while using Infira as a default Remote Procedure Call (RPC) provider, according to Blockworks reports.

Not only that, ConsenSys also said that his party collects usernames, passwords and gender information, as well as financial data such as asset ownership, bank account numbers and bank route numbers used such as Mastercard and Visa.

For information, Metamask supports the purchase of crypto via credit cards bearing the Visa and Mastercard logos. However, for MetaMask users using the Ethereum network or RPC service providers, the company will not collect their data.

MetaMask has about 21 million active users interacting with various features in digital wallets including decentralized applications (DApps) to access decentralized crypto exchanges (DEXs) and so on. The announcement from the MetaMask developer follows similar steps made by Uniswap's leading DEX.

This decision causes negative reactions from privacy-first crypto users. They hope that their important data will not be shared with internet service providers or other parties because it involves sensitive user data.

Even so, ConsenSys did not explain in more detail why they made the decision. Collecting user data will be done through the company related to ConsenSys, Infura.
