JAKARTA - When Apple launched the iPhone 14 some time ago, the company revealed that it would create an Emergency SOS service through the Satellite feature, but since then there has been no further news of this feature. Now, Apple is giving new clues.

Viewed for the first time by MacRumors, on the company's support page, the Emergency SOS via Satellite will be available with the iOS 16 software update in November 2022.

It is known, iOS 16.1 launched at the end of October, and iOS 16.2 is expected to launch in December, so the life-saving feature is claimed to come with iOS 16.1.1 in the coming weeks.

This SOS Emergency feature will help users contact emergency services when they are in a bad state. If users are out of reach of cellular and Wi-Fi, their iPhone will connect to the assistance needed via satellite.

Messages sent via SOS Emergency via Satellite can reach their destination in just 15 seconds, but only when the user has a view directly into the sky.

However, if the user is under a tree or blocked by the building it may take more than a minute to send. If nothing goes wrong, this feature will be present for all four iPhone 14 models, including the iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Launching TechRadar, Wednesday, November 9, this feature will first reach US and Canadian users, expected to be launched in other countries towards the end of 2023.

Apple says the SOS Emergency via Satellite will be free for all iPhone 14 users for the first two years after its launch. This means that the feature will charge a subscription fee or payment per use by the end of 2024.
