JAKARTA - Analog TV broadcasts that switch to digital TV are officially implemented today in a number of Jabodetabek areas. Chairperson of Commission I of the DPR RI, Meutya Viada Hafid, who was also present virtually at the Analog Switch Off (ASO) countdown event, said this transition was a must.

"Finally we have arrived at this step, the analog TV broadcasts that have accompanied us, broadcasting for 60 years in Indonesia have finally been replaced by a new broadcasting system, namely the digital broadcasting system," said Meutya.

"We have followed the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) that the transition to digital technology is a must. Stopping analog TV broadcasts will contribute greatly to sustainable development," she added.

In addition, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD also revealed that the transition from analog TV to digital TV was a directive from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) from a long time ago.

"This is also a directive from ITU regarding the need for us to carry out ASO to digital by migrating this broadcast," said Mahfud.

"Then Indonesia will get an efficient dividend frequency which will later be used for 5G internet speed access and digitalization related to natural disaster management, education, and supporting the digital economy," he added.

Moreover, according to Mahfud, the public will also get better broadcast quality compared to watching from analog TV and various other benefits.

"The public will also get better broadcast quality, the number of television channels they will receive will also increase, and spur the growth of local content and encourage the diversity of content from the domestic broadcasting industry," said Mahfud.

"It's like content that is educative and creative and has the potential to grow a new broadcasting ecosystem at the local or regional level," added Mahfud.
