JAKARTA - General Motors (GM) decided to suspend its ads on Twitter after Elon Musk took over the microblogging social network yesterday.

Musk, as is known, does not only have SpaceX, he is also the boss of Tesla who often bulldozes GM in the market to become the most valuable automaker in the United States (US) several years ago.

GM's move bridges advertising because it wants to evaluate Twitter's new direction. GM said it would continue to use the platform to interact with customers but not pay for ads.

We are engaged with Twitter to understand the direction of the platform under their new holdings. As with normal businesses with significant changes to media platforms, we have temporarily suspended our paid advertising," GM told CNBC International quoted Saturday, October 29.

"The interaction of our customer service on Twitter (still) will continue," he added.

However, after Musk officially raised Twitter, he tweeted aimed at advertisers to ease their concerns.

"There's a lot of speculation about why I bought Twitter and what I thought about advertising. It's mostly wrong. When done right, it can be fun, and entertaining. To be true, it's important to show users of ad Twitter that's as rapid as possible with their needs," Musk tweeted.

Launching Engadget, over the last few years, GM has provided more Electric Vehicle (EV) options in a bid to compete with Tesla.

The Detroit, US-based automaker earlier this year is also building a third US factory that will make batteries for its electric vehicles. Again, this is an attempt to overtake Tesla.
