JAKARTA - Google Meet and Zoom finally unite to present a virtual conference room. The interoperability of the two will provide smooth two-way communication for users.

The plan, the interoperability will come later this year. Later, Zoom users will be able to join meetings on Meet and vice versa easily such as clicking calendar items or entering meeting codes.

When launched, the administrator will be able to activate this interoperability for their registered devices, while allowing trusted devices to easily join cross-platform calls.

Zoom-Meet interoperability will initially only work from ChromeOS-based Meet devices, which have become the main platform where Meet's conference devices were created. It is based on existing interoperability between Cisco Webex devices and Meet devices.

Interestingly, this interoperability will be available at no additional cost. The second step should be to benefit organizations that need to interconnect conference rooms with partners, customers, and other internal groups that use different conference platforms.

"With the transfer to hybrid workplaces, organizations need to bridge the gap between location and device, and facilitate a more in-depth connection between people, partners and their customers," said Google Workspace product director Dave Citron.

"This is very important in the conference room and joint space where video meetings occur more regularly by returning to the office," he continued.

Launching ZDNet, Saturday, October 29, the interoperability can later use Poly and Logitech-based first Android-based Meet-certified conference equipment. Meet equipment based on the second Android vendor will be available in early 2023.

"Customers with Android Poly or Logitech-based devices will be able to take advantage of their investments and move to Meet just by adding a Meet license for this device," Citron said.
