YOGYAKARTA - Battery is the main part as a source of electric motorized vehicle (KBL) in Indonesia. The nickel, cobalt and manganese battery materials have the potential to exist in Indonesia. Then is there Indonesian lithium natural resources?

"The potential of our batteries is nickel, cobalt and manganese. There are many reserves, we even have them. However, they are all still potential," said Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro, Special Penaehat Minister for Industrial Development and Competitive Policy of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs in a discussion on the implementation of electrification vehicles (EV) at the Kadin office, Jakarta, Tuesday (27/8/2019).

For Lithium, Satryo admitted that Indonesia did not have the metal yet. However, in his presentation, he mentioned that the metal element has the potential to exist in the areas of Tikus, Bangka Belitung, Hatapang, Tigapuluh Mountains, Aceh and Sumatra with a note that field information is needed in more detail.

"We hope that ESDM will also focus on lithium, nickel which is potential for battery development," said Satryo.

Meanwhile, for battery-based KBL, his party wants a four-electric vehicle factory financier to build a factory in Indonesia with a production capacity of 60,000 units per year.

nickel resources currently cover 3 billion tons, cobalt 480 million tons. In metal form, nickel reserves cover 62 million tons and cobalt 1 million tons.

There is a possibility

Lithium is one of the minerals that has the highest demand in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Indonesia, whose natural wealth is large, hopes to become a battery-producing country. Therefore, it takes to investigate other major sources of raw materials in battery production.
