JAKARTA - Mac users can now try out a browser that relies on privacy, DuckDuckGo. However, the app is still in the open beta test phase.

First debuted last April, the browser was initially only available via a beta closed waiting list, but now every Mac user can download alternative options to try before its official public launch.

Designed for privacy, DuckDuckGo's built-in protection for Macs includes the ability to block trackers even before they load. This browser will also result in data usage of about 60 percent less than Chrome. Because, it is based on the WebKit rendering machine used by Safari.

Other features include blocking prerequisite pop-ups and popular shortcuts "Fire Button" DuckDuckGo, which can immediately delete stored browser data.

Furthermore, several additional features have also been added to the browser (version 0.30) since its original announcement.

Now users can try Duck Player, a feature that protects users from targeted ads and cookies while watching YouTube content. Ads viewed in Duck Player will not be personalized, according to DuckDuckGo claims, actually remove most YouTube ads.

Even so, YouTube will continue to list users' views, but content watched via Duck Player will not contribute to their YouTube ad profile.

Citing The Verge, Wednesday, October 19, there are also pinned tabs and new marker blades to respond to feedback from early beta testing, as well as ways to look at locally stored search history.

DuckDuckGo Cookie Consent Pop-Up Manager is also available and works at about 50 percent of sites to automatically select the most private option and prevent users from annoying pop-up messages.

Improvements have also been made to DuckDuckGo for Mac tracker blocking. The browser app often blocks ads that use invasive tracking even before they are published, now to make it safer that the browser will remove the empty space left by the vanishing ad, providing users with cleaner workspaces without requiring ad blockers.

For the Windows version, DuckDuckGo insists the app is still in the development stage and is currently being tested in early beta. While the beta of the private waiting list is claimed to arrive in the coming months.
