JAKARTA - The government continues to carry out clean and sustainableenegri campaigns. One of them is by using electric motorcycles. Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita hopes that socialization and education can increase the population of electric vehicles, as an effort to reduce carbon gas emissions.

"Currently, socialization and education are one of the very important steps, for example related to positive impacts on the economy and the environment as well as the convenience of using electric vehicles," said the Minister of Industry in a statement in Jakarta, Saturday, October 15.

The Minister of Industry conveyed this during a working visit at PT Triangle Motorindo (VIAR Motor) in Semarang, Central Java. The Ministry of Industry always encourages the automotive industry to produce a variety of innovative products with the latest electric vehicle technology.

In order to create a market as well as increase the population of electric vehicles in Indonesia, the government has issued Presidential Instruction Number 7 of 2022 concerning the Use of Battery-Based Electric Vehicles (Battery Electric Vehicles) as Vehicles for the Operational and/or Individual Vehicles Service of Central Government Agencies and Regional Governments.

The existence of this Presidential Instruction will be a catalyst for increasing the production of environmentally friendly vehicles as well as a form of the government's commitment to accelerating the electrification era in Indonesia.

"We continue to deepen related to the electric vehicle industry, both for four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles. Especially for two-wheelers, there is a target from the President in the shortest possible time to produce two million units by 2025," said Agus.

The Minister of Industry is optimistic that this target can be achieved in the near future because the support for the production capacity of electric motorcycles from 35 electric vehicle manufacturers reaches one million units per year.

"This is to achieve the government's target for Indonesia to reduce emissions by 29 percent in 2030 and achieve the zero emission target or net zero emissions by 2060," he said.

Therefore, Agus emphasized the need to strengthen the electric vehicle ecosystem from upstream to downstream, so that Indonesia can become a producer of electric vehicle hubs in the ASEAN and Oceania regions.

"We give our appreciation to domestic companies that have participated in building an electric vehicle ecosystem in the country," he said.

Furthermore, the Minister of Industry emphasized to electric vehicle manufacturers to continue to optimize the use of domestic components so that it will directly increase the value of the level of domestic components (TKDN).

"Optimizing the value of this local component can increase the potential of the vehicle market due to the issuance of Presidential Instruction No. 7 of 2022," he added.

This effort is also in accordance with the mandate of the Minister of Industry Regulation Number 6 of 2022 concerning Specifications, Roadmaps for Development, and Provisions for Calculation of the Domestic Component Level of Battery-Based Electric Vehicles (Battery Electric Vehicles).

"Thus, electric vehicles that have met the minimum TKDN limit according to Presidential Decree 55 of 2019 can fill in the request for official and operational vehicles of the government according to Presidential Instruction 7/2022," he explained.

General Manager of VIAR Motor Dimas Tommy Radityo said the VIAR factory was established in 2000 located in the Terboyo area. Along with the growing business of Viar Motor, the company relocated to the Semarang Baru Hill Industrial Estate (BSB) in March 2011 to improve its production system, production capacity, and production quality.

This new factory, covering an area of 20 hectares, has a production capacity of up to 1000 units per day, making us one of the largest automotive factories in Indonesia. Not only that, but the company also continues to increase the downstream domestic component industry to become part of the VIAR supply chain," he explained.
