JAKARTA - NIO, a multinational car manufacturer, officially opened a battery exchange station (Power Swap Station) for electric cars in Germany on Thursday, September 29 yesterday.

The first station to be able to perform 312 battery replacements per day is located at Zusmarshausen, in the south of the country, on the A8 highway between Munich and Stuttgart.

"NIO is the first OEM in Germany to build a standardized power exchange system for all NIO models and allow for fully automated battery replacement in five minutes," said Ralph Kranz, Germany's NIO executive director, quoted by Cnevpost.

Ahead of the upcoming delivery of the first vehicle (NIO ET7) in Germany, NIO customers will soon be able to sense revolutionary charging solutions for themselves, including fully automated battery exchanges, the company said.

The battery swap station project has started in June 2022 with German TSG installation partners, and has finally been completed after three months of construction.

The company added that the two-gared station will have 13 battery sizes filled from 40 kW to 80 kW on a network and battery-friendly that does not cause the peak of the regular network.

"This gives NIO users maximum flexibility, apart from being able to switch to different battery sizes at any time and thus increase vehicles as needed in the future, thoughts about their battery life are outdated," Kranz added.

"We believe that this is the station that was shown earlier this month leaving the European NIO Power Plant in Hungary. Together with two stations installed in Norway (one in January and another in August), there are currently three in Europe.

By the end of 2025, NIO was ambitious to install more than 4,000 such stations, including 1,000 or more outside China. In China, the company has installed more than 1,100 stations (with a total of more than 238,000 cars shipped so far).
