Snapchat Brings Spotlight To Compete With TikTok

JAKARTA - Snapchat launched the Spotlight feature, which is ready to become a competitor to TikTok. This feature will later be integrated with the Snapchat application to display short videos that have been created by users.

Citing Tech Crunch, Tuesday, November 24, Spotlight will be a special place for its users which contains a collection of short videos. The maximum duration of a Spotlight video is 60 seconds.

At first glance, the interface of the app made by Snapchat is similar to the "For You" (FYP) page on TikTok. However, Snapchat claims it will use its algorithm to present the most interesting content to users personally.

This algorithm will also consider various factors when users swipe (swipe) the screen to view various short video content. Over time, the Spotlight feed will only display videos that match the user's interactions, preferences and preferences.

As a differentiator from TikTok, Snapchat also allows Spotlight to display content from public or private accounts. Even so, Snapchat still provides an 18 year age limit for certain video content that will appear in public.

Interestingly, many creators want to upload their content on Spotlight. Snapchat has prepared US $ 1 million to pay creators who can deliver viral and popular video content by the end of 2020.

The amount that Snapchat pays will be determined by the content algorithm on Spotlight. Where rewards will be given to creators based on the number of unique views they get per day compared to other content on the platform.

For now, Snapchat Spotlight has just launched in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and France. It is not yet known whether Snapchat will reach more countries in the future.

So far Snapchat isn't the only platform to emulate TikTok's success. There's Instagram with Reels, then YouTube also launched Shorts for its short videos.
