JAKARTA - Encrypted messaging service Signal said the phone numbers of as many as 1,900 users could have been exposed in a phishing attack on Twilio Inc, a verification service provider, earlier this month.

Attackers were also able to access the SMS verification code used to register with Signal, but message history, profile information and contact lists were not disclosed, the company said in a blog post on Monday, August 15.

"An attacker could try to re-register the number to another device or find out that their number is registered with Signal," he said.

Twilio, who disclosed the attack earlier this month, was not immediately available for comment from Reuters.

The San Francisco, California-based company has more than 256,000 businesses including Ford Motor Co, Mercado Libre Inc and HSBC among its customers.
