JAKARTA - Meta Platform Inc. announced on Thursday, July 14 that they are piloting a way for users to add up to five profiles linked to a single Facebook account.

The social media giant said the test was dedicated to Facebook users wanting to join different groups with different accounts. So that later, users will easily switch to another account with just one tap.

"To help people customize their experiences based on interests and relationships, we're testing a way for people to have more than one profile tied to a single Facebook account," Facebook spokesman Leonard Lam told TechCrunch in an email.

Facebook doesn't require you to use your real name on additional profiles, but Facebook still requires you to use your real name on your main account. You will be able to access your additional profile after you first log in to the main account.

This test gives users a formal leeway for semi-anonymous identity on the social network Facebook. But it's worth noting that additional profiles will remain subject to Facebook's policies, where you can't misrepresent or impersonate others, to prevent abuse on the platform.

Facebook also said there are some things that can only be done on the main account and can't be done on additional accounts, such as using the Facebook Dating feature.

This change is a way for Meta to retain its users, while competing with other platforms, especially TikTok.

A Meta spokesperson said the company was testing additional profile features with certain users in certain countries, but declined to disclose which countries.
