JAKARTA - Earlier this year, Bulgari made headlines after launching the world's thinnest watch with a stunning model and thickness of just 1.80mm. But the jewelry brand is no longer seen thanks to the new Richard Mille watch, which was designed in collaboration with Ferrari.

The RM UP-01 Ferrari is even more excited because it is 0.05 mm thinner than the Octo Finissimo Ultra Bulgari. This watch worn by Charles Leclerc now claims the title of being the world's thinnest mechanical watch.

"At just 1.75 millimeters thick, the RM UP-01 Ferrari is a triumph in technical prowess and exemplifies a new approach to viewing mechanics where technical more than ever determines aesthetics," said a source at Richard Mille as quoted by The Daily Mail.

However, if you're hoping to get your hands on a record-breaking watch, you'd better save as the Ferrari RM UP-01 retails for $1,888,000.

While it was Richard Mille who started developing the world's thinnest watch, it was clear that the RM UP-01 Ferrari was no longer a "concept watch".

“Even in areas of extreme flatness, we are determined to make a watch that meets the same validation requirements as all of our other models,” he explains.

“In this quest for absolute flatness, we had to offer a watch that, far from being a 'concept watch', but rather has the task of keeping up with the everyday life of the wearer,” adds Richard Mille.

According to the brand, the watch took more than 6,000 hours to develop and test.

Richard Mille chose grade 5 titanium for the base plate and bridge ties, an alloy that is highly resistant to corrosion.

"The alloy is 90 percent titanium grade 5, six percent aluminum and four percent vanadium," he said. “This combination further improves the mechanical properties of the material, which explains its frequent use in the aerospace, aeronautical and automotive industries.”

The base plate is in a rounded rectangular box, with the time indication located in the center of the top. The watch is manually rotated, and has a power reserve of about 45 hours.

Function options are integrated into the bezel between 10 and 11 o'clock, and allow the user to select either the scroll function or the hand setting.

“Setting the time or turning the barrel is possible by turning the second knob located between 7 and 8 o'clock,” he explains. If you want to get one, you have to be quick and make sure you have a big budget.

The RM UP-01 is limited to 150 pieces and will require potential buyers to have a budget of US$1,888,000.
