Menkominfo: The G20 Presidency Could Be An Opportunity To Discuss About Digital Transformation Issues

JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Johnny G. Plate said that the role of the G20 Presidency is an opportunity for the Government of the Republic of Indonesia to facilitate and encourage the advancement of discussions between stakeholders to discuss various global issues, including digital transformation.

According to Johnny, the discussion of the issue of digital-based transformation across sectors is increasingly important in line with the increase in digital technology innovation in dealing with the economic crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

I believe that we have all witnessed how digital technology has helped our society to grow and recover after the COVID-19 pandemic. The increasing use of digital technology has become more of a concern worldwide in particular, because we are also familiar with the emergence of supercomputing and quantum computing technologies, artificial general intelligence, web 5.0 and of course the Metaverse," explained the Minister of Communication and Information in a press release.

According to him, there are several important points that must be improved in digitalization and internet progress in developing countries. In conditions like this, digitalization is considered to be able to encourage future economic growth.

The world today and beyond will be digitized. Digitalization will continue to drive major economic growth in the coming years, where the valuation of the digital transformation market is projected to grow from around 520 billion US dollars in 2021 to more than 1.24 US dollars in 2026," he said.

In fact, Johnny stated that there is a potential for digital-based business expansion which is estimated to reach 70% with digital innovation in 2030. "Some of them are projected through driverless car applications," he said.

Despite the promising potential use of technology, Minister Johnny assessed that the digital ecosystem needs to pay attention to the various challenges that exist. One of them is the digital divide.
