Presidential Medal Of Freedom Awarded To Steve Jobs For Service To Information Technology

JAKARTA – Steve Jobs, one of the founders of the US technology giant, Apple Inc., is considered one of the most instrumental in revolutionizing information technology, in the world. The services of the inventor of this iPhone will be remembered for all time.

No wonder the US President, Joe Biden, gave the highest honor to a civilian in the US for his services, Jobs, was awarded the "Presidential Medal of Freedom" (posthumous). The award will be given on July 7 as part of a series of activities to welcome this year's United States Independence Day.

Even though he died almost 12 years ago, it doesn't make the public forget his name just like that.

The award is given by considering the services and dedication that has been done. The included "posthumous" appendage refers to the Presidential Medal of Freedom awarded to someone who has died.

Jobs, who died on October 5, 2011, due to cancer. He contributed to the development of the computer, cell phone and digital music industry. Through the Apple company which he founded on April 1, 1976, he made a big difference in the way people view the computer industry which is now inseparable from our daily lives.

Steve Jobs has also been in the entertainment industry by being CEO of the animated film studio Pixar and serving on the board of directors of Walt Disney. While at Pixar and Walt Disney, Jobs is also said to have played a role in changing the film industry.

"His (Steve Jobs) vision, imagination and creativity resulted in inventions that have, and continue to be, changing the way the world communicates, and transforming the computer, music, film and wireless industries," the White House wrote on its official website.

According to a report by The Verge, in addition to Steve Jobs, other recipients of this year's Medal of Freedom include gymnast Simon Biles, actor and director Denzel Washington, and footballer Megan Rapinoeis.

Previously, in 2016, Microsoft founder Bill Gates was also awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by US President Barack Obama. Gates got the highest award for US citizens not because he founded Microsoft, but because of the social foundation Gates Foundation.
