JAKARTA - Mercedes-Benz is adapting its factory network to produce a range of new and luxury electric vehicles as it prepares to switch to electric vehicles by the end of the decade.
Mercedes wants to take part in halving CO2 emissions per passenger car over its life cycle by the end of this decade compared to 2020.

"We are ready for the rapid scaling of electric vehicle volumes," said Joerg Burzer, board member for production and supply chain. He added the new arrangement follows talks between management and worker representatives.
The factories in Sindelfingen, Bremen, Rastatt, which are all in Germany and the plant in Kecskemet, Hungary, will start production of new models in the high-end, mid-range and entry-level luxury car segments starting in the middle of this decade.
The battery system will be supplied by a production network with factories located on three continents at once. This is to avoid the scarcity of batteries which are currently still few produced in European countries.
"Local production of the battery system is a key success factor for Mercedes-Benz's electric upgrades and a decisive component to be able to meet global demand for electric vehicles flexibly and efficiently," said Burzer.
