Airbnb Bans Rented House Parties Permanently

JAKARTA - Two years ago, Airbnb announced a temporary ban on hosting parties and events for hosts and guests globally. But now, the company has made the ban permanent and has drafted the rules.

In the Airbnb newsroom, the company recounted how the ban started. Initially, the company allows hosts to authorize appropriate parties in their home environment.

But in 2019, Airbnb tightened the rules by banning open parties (parties advertised on social media). Then the pandemic hit, many clubs closed, so many people moved parties to their homes, including using Airbnb.

Worried about disturbing hosts or guests, and spreading the virus, the company finally made a temporary ban on parties in 2020.

This announcement was made to maintain the relationship of guests and hosts in irresponsible things such as having an open party (a party advertised on social media).

At the time, this provisional decision was "in effect until further notice," and now Airbnb has provided a continuation of that interim decision.

Seeing the temporary ban that was in place from 2020 effective, the company finally made the ban permanent. In addition, Airbnb also lifted the 16-person occupancy limit which was also introduced in 2020.

"This particular policy change will take effect in the coming months," Airbnb said.
