JAKARTA - Volkswagen has announced a stylish new electric sedan concept, the ID Aero. The vehicle is planned to be produced in China in 2023. The EV's aerodynamic shape and 16 feet length will help enable it to have a range of up to 385 miles or 620 km based on the European WLTP.

The ID Aero will be built on VW's flexible MEB platform, which is also used to power other electric models. The automaker also claims an ultra-low drag coefficient of 0.23, which puts it on par with other luxury German electric cars in its class, such as the BMW i4 and Mercedes-Benz EQS.

Otherwise, there's not much that sets ID Aero apart from its competitors. There are full-width LED lightbars at the front and rear of the vehicle, which is a common feature among today's EVs. VW opted for a glossy black roof over glass, and 21-inch alloy wheels that are sure to help maintain mileage while driving.

VW says the ID Aero will be its flagship in the EV family when it goes on sale in China, Europe and North America. This car will be launched in China first, and will appear after vehicle ID 3, ID 4, and ID 6.

Customers will be able to choose from two models, one made by FAW-Volkswagen and the other from SAIC Volkswagen.

As reported by The Verge, VW doesn't have much to say about this concept, so if you want to hear more then potential buyers should be more detailed in asking about the energy capacity and configuration of the motor.

The fact that VW is showing off a sedan, not an S

UV or truck, implying this car is mostly aimed at the luxury market in Europe and China. But even then, it will have a tough road ahead, as Tesla, Lucid, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW have already moved units.

Upon release, the ID Aero will join the ID 3 hatchback, ID 4 compact SUV, ID 5 coupe, and ID Buzz microbus as the newest members of VW's rapidly growing line of electric vehicles. Even in China it will also get an elongated ID 6 at some point in the future.

The VW ID family also includes a large SUV concept version (ID Roomzz) and a dune buggy (ID Buggy). All are being built on Volkswagen's MEB modular electric vehicle platform.
