Closed Captions Toggle From Twitter Now Available On IOS And Android

JAKARTA - Twitter has announced that the button to toggle subtitles for its video player is now available for all users on iOS and Android. The button, which appears in the upper-right corner of the video if subtitles is available, lets you choose whether you want to see a written description. Twitter started testing this feature in April, but it's only available to a small number of iPhone users.

Over the years, whether or not subtitles appear on your mobile device has been determined by various factors. Like whether you've enabled captions in your phone's accessibility settings, or if you're watching a video with the sound off.

While that still counts, you can now easily turn it on or off whenever you want, just as you already do on the Twitter website and many other video platforms.

If you want to see an example of this switch, you can check out The Verge's tweet with the trailer for the Netflix show, which has a text file attached. Users can see the buttons on iPhones and Android phones, although that might be a bit of a problem, as sometimes the text doesn't appear, and pressing the button sometimes freezes the video.

In an email to The Verge, Twitter spokeswoman Shaokyi Amdo said the button "will only appear on videos with subtitles already available, and is not associated with the automated captioning system." Hopefully, this available to everyone button will encourage anyone who uploads videos to Twitter to consider adding captions.
