Microsoft Will Stop Internet Explorer Soon, Users Will Switch To Microsoft Edge

JAKARTA - After almost 27 years of launch, Microsoft is rumored to be discontinuing the Internet Explorer service on several versions of Windows on Wednesday, June 15.

Upon reaching its end, Internet Explorer will be replaced with the new chromium-based Microsoft Edge, and users will be automatically switched to Microsoft Edge.

Internet Explorer will no longer be available for Windows 10 client SKUs (versions 20H2 and later) and Windows 10 IoT (versions 20H2 and later). For Windows 11, Microsoft Edge will be the default browser on the desktop.

However, after June 15, Internet Explorer will still be available for Windows 7 ESU, Windows 8.1, and all versions of Windows 10 LTSC client, IoT, and Server.

"The Internet Explorer (IE) 11 desktop app will end support for the semi-annual line of Windows 10 starting June 15, 2022," Microsoft said on its IE11 lifecycle page.

Microsoft further explains that for supported operating systems, Internet Explorer 11 will continue to receive security updates and technical support for the lifecycle of the installed version of Windows. Other Microsoft applications and services have also ended support for IE11 over the past few years.

Furthermore, Microsoft said it will provide support for IE Mode in Edge until 2029 to give developers time to modernize older apps and eventually shut down.
