JAKARTA - After months of delay, Facebook finally launched its first dating service in Europe, Facebook Dating, which was previously planned to be launched on Valentine's Day, February.

Reporting from Reuters on Thursday, October 22, this dating service is known to overtake Tinder and other competing dating apps. The features used also resemble Tinder.

Facebook Dating product manager Kate Orseth said users can choose to create a dating profile, and can delete it at any time without deleting their Facebook account.

The user will use the profile (name and age) that was previously used on the Facebook page. Later, this dating application will adjust the compatibility of the couple with preferences, Facebook activity and user groups.

Although this service still depends on the Facebook application tab, the service is also integrated with Instagram, where users can embed photos or videos from there.

In addition, users can also initiate Messenger video calls, and there is also a Secret Crush feature that can search for followers on Instagram and Facebook friends to find a perfect match.

On the other hand, questioning its security, Facebook admitted that it made the match more personally based on the user's previous activity on Facebook, meaning that users could choose to share other personal information or not.

Others, Facebook said the cause of the delay in launching this Facebook Dating. The company owned by Mark Zuckerberg chose to delay the launch of the service after regulators in Ireland questioned the planned launch timing.

Companies looking to launch such a product must undergo a review called a Data Processing Impact Assessment (DPIA) under the protection of the European Union's GDPR, and Facebook is reportedly late notifying regulators of its plans, raising concerns about data privacy compliance.

It is known that Facebook launched the Facebook Dating service first in the US, then currently it has been launched in more than 50 countries, namely Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Croatia, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Slovenia, Slovakia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Spain, Switzerland, and United Kingdom.
