JAKARTA - The website of the Russian Ministry of Construction, Housing and Utilities has reportedly been hacked. When searched or visited via the internet, the site actually leads to the sign "Glory to Ukraine" in Ukrainian.

Russia's state news agency, RIA, on Sunday evening 6 June, citing a ministry representative, said the site was inactive but users' personal data was protected.

RIA said that other media outlets had reported that hackers demanded ransoms to prevent the public from disclosing user data. Reuters itself could not confirm which media outlet the RIA cited.

Many Russian state-owned companies and news organizations have experienced sporadic hacking attempts since Russia sent its armed forces to Ukraine on February 24.

A hacking attack in early May took video hosting site RuTube offline for three days and changed satellite television menus in Moscow on Victory Day, as Russia celebrated the 77th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany.

Separately, Ukraine's UNIAN news agency reported on Sunday that the online broadcast of the Ukraine-Wales football match by OLL.TV was temporarily hacked. Reuters itself was unable to verify the report.

Moscow said it was carrying out "special military operations" to disarm Ukraine and protect it from fascists. Ukraine and Western countries reject Russia's claims as a pretext for attack.
