JAKARTA – In support of an environmentally friendly campaign, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is now encouraging the use of electric vehicles in the tourist area of Borobudur Temple, Magelang, Central Java. The Deputy for Destinations and Infrastructure Development at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Vinsensius Jemadu, stated that the Borobudur area is one of the Super Priority Destinations (DSP) which is expected to be a champion in implementing electric-based public transportation.

"In May 2022, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno has inaugurated an environmentally friendly electric vehicle service in Borobudur that can be used by tourists to get around the area and tourist villages in the vicinity," he said at the inauguration of the Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU). in the area through an official statement, in Jakarta, Sunday.

Currently, he continued, there are already electric-based two-wheeled public vehicles that can be used by visitors to the area. Electric-based tourism vehicles will be used as a mode of transportation that connects the main points of tourism.

Gradually, according to Vincent, the use of electric vehicles will be implemented in all major tourist destinations such as the five DSPs. With that, the dream of making Indonesia an environmentally friendly destination (World Green Destination) is considered to be achieved.

On the same occasion, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that the provision of SPKLU in tourism destinations was needed to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) in the tourism sector.

"Through the provision of electric-based tourism vehicles and SPKLU in tourism destinations, it is hoped that next year the Borobudur area will be clean from fossil cars so that the Borobudur area will become a green area," said the Minister.

In 2024, it is targeted that land issues, the placement of SPKLU, and the electricity network will be completed.

"All arrangements for Borobudur will be completed in 2024, President Joko Widodo has ordered it and the final budget is Rp. 6.8 trillion for all of these arrangements. Land problems are resolved, placement problems are resolved, and the cable light problem is no longer on top," he said.
