Survey: Latin American Countries Interested In Metaverse

JAKARTA – In the midst of the explosive enthusiasm for the virtual world of the metaverse among the global community, Latin American countries (LATAM) are said to be interested in the metaverse.

According to a survey conducted by Ipsos for the World Economic Forum (WEF), it has been found that half of adults worldwide have a positive opinion about the metaverse and how it can affect their lives. Developing countries have a more enthusiastic sentiment on this issue.

The study surveyed groups of 1,000 and 500 adults in 29 different countries, which were considered representative of the true population of each country. The study reports that all countries in Latam surveyed – including Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, and Peru – have more positive opinions than the rest of the world about metaverse technology, Bitcoin.com News reports.

Peruvians have an overwhelming opinion of the metaverse, with 74 percent of adults surveyed being positive about it, surpassed only by a few countries in the APAC region. The survey also found that most people believe that certain applications of metaverse technology will be more successful than others.

When asked about what kinds of metaverse applications will change people's lives in the next 10 years, most respondents believe that the impact of this technology will be more intense in activities such as virtual learning (66 percent), entertainment in VR (64 percent), virtual work settings. (62 percent), and virtual/enhanced games (60 percent).

Digital asset trading, something already worked on on several isolated metaverse platforms, scored as much as 52 percent. Regarding virtual tourism, the public is not very enthusiastic, with only 48 percent of respondents giving a positive view of its impact.

However, even with all these differences, most people still believe that their lives will be affected by metaverse technology in the next 10 years.

Even so, at this time the metaverse is still in the development stage. The metaverse boom was triggered by Facebook's decision to focus more on the metaverse some time ago. Then Mark Zuckerberg announced his company changed its name to Meta.
