JAKARTA - Gojek strengthens the Gojek SHIELD security technology for its partners. With this additional security feature, online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers can detect fictitious or illegal orders.

Head of Driver Operations, Trus & Safety, Kelvin Timotius, said the feature runs using machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) technology to detect and take action against various fraudulent acts, including fictitious orders and use of illegal devices.

"If a driver is hit by a fictitious order, the driver can immediately click on the application, report it, and very quickly our system can detect and differentiate based on the transactions we have. Machine learning and artificial intelligence can tell which ones are detected based on parameters," he said Kelvin in a virtual conference, Tuesday, October 13.

Through this feature, driver partners can report fictitious orders directly from the driver application without having to call the call center, in less than 2 minutes the system will automatically cancel orders that are indicated to be fictitious.

Furthermore, driver partners can return to work. However, if the order is not indicated as fictitious, Gojek will inform the driver partner that the order is safe, and then they can contact the customer.

"This gives partners a trust, where the Gojek system will help partners work," said Kelvin.

Apart from detection of fictitious orders, Gojek also presents technology to automatically detect and take action against partners who use illegal devices.

"Illegal applications are very dangerous and we also see illegal applications in the Gojek driver ecosystem, why we ban this, and we protect our drivers from applications like this, one thing that is very important, vulnerable to security risks," said Kelvin.

Illegal applications are used by driver partners because they are lured by individuals who promise to increase the number of orders or anti-suspend. Not free, drivers are usually charged for downloading applications which of course do not come from the official application store.

If the system detects it, illegal device users will receive a gradual sanction, starting from temporary account deactivation to termination of the partnership.

"We always help education. Before we suspend, we give a warning. This is one of the advance detections we have that can protect drivers from illegal applications," Kelvin continued.

On the same occasion, IT expert and Digital Security Expert from Swiss German University, Charles Lim, expressed the importance for digital platforms to be one step ahead of the competition with digital criminals.

Either through technological innovation, or by ensuring that the parties within it have sufficient literacy through education. Moreover, illegal applications can compromise driver partner data, which will impact the Gojek ecosystem as a whole.

"I see that Gojek's steps against the use of illegal applications are appropriate, because Gojek is indirectly protecting its partners from greater losses," said Charles.

Gojek has also done various things in sustainable education to increase literacy about the importance of maintaining digital security with various parties.

Not only driver partners, education about security also targets the wider community through Gojek collaboration with various parties such as the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information, UGM Center for Digital Society (CfDS) and Siberkreasi.

Gojek also carries out strong inclusive collaborations with various parties, namely the government, legislators, academics, NGO partners, and public figures to voice the importance of digital security.

As a corrective step, Gojek has also collaborated with the police. In addition, Gojek also carries out a preventive approach to protect its partners from security risks.

Previously, through technology, Gojek has presented security features, such as Advance Verification, number masking that protects partner accounts from piracy, as well as security features for customers, such as an emergency button and share trips.
