JAKARTA - Google officially announced that it has acquired Raxium, an innovator in single-panel MicroLED display technology to help make AR headsets better and cheaper, on Wednesday, May 4.
"The team at Raxium has spent five years creating a reduced, cost-effective and energy-efficient high-resolution display that has laid the foundation for future display technologies," said Rick Osterloh, Senior Vice President, Devices & Services, in a blog post.
Raxium is a five year old startup best known for its MicroLED technology. Osterloh believes that Raxium's technical expertise in these areas will play a key role as Google continues to invest in its hardware efforts.
When The Information first reported on Google's purchase of Raxium last month, it noted that MicroLED technology could be useful for building AR displays that are more energy efficient than other solutions, but still look colorful.

Osterloh added that the Fremont, California-based company Raxium will be joining the Google Devices & Services team.
