JAKARTA - TikTok again dominates the ranking with the fastest growth in the world in the first quarter (Q1) 2022. No wonder, because this short video application is in high demand by teenagers than other applications.

In Sensor Tower's report on Store Intelligence Data for Q1 2022, TikTok was named the top downloaded app worldwide. This achievement surpassed Instagram's 3.5 billion all-time downloads in Q1 last year.

This makes TikTok the first app to cross a threshold that Meta doesn't have. Since early 2022, TikTok has been downloaded more than 175 million times.

China-based social media owned ByteDance has surpassed 10 million downloads over the past nine quarters from now, while YouTube has crossed the same threshold for eight consecutive quarters.

Sensor Tower states that no app has had more downloads than TikTok since early 2018 when WhatsApp had 250 million downloads worldwide.

There's a lot to be said about TikTok's success and where it's headed. The social media app is dominant for relevant trends, unique algorithms and diverse communities for each specific topic.

Recently, TikTok brought its updates including interactive add-ons for in-feed ads as well as testing a private dislike button for comments. In addition, to enhance the user experience, TikTok also launched its own AR development platform, Effect House.

Furthermore, while looking at global downloads on iPhone and iPad, the order of the top five apps has remained unchanged over the past three quarters. TikTok surpassed 70 million App Store downloads for just the third time in Q1 2022, driven by 11 percent quarter-on-quarter growth in Asia.

Despite being banned in India, which has one of the largest markets for app installs in the world, the app ranks third overall in Asia. Number one on the App Store, yet in seventh place for Google Play in Asia.

This estimate made by Sensor Tower includes worldwide downloads for iPhone, iPad and Google Play from January 1 to March 31, 2022. This does not include pre-installed apps.

Sensor Tower only reports unique installs and Android estimates excluding third party stores. The number represents the aggregated installs of all app versions. Thus quoted from TechCrunch, Wednesday, April 27.
