JAKARTA - Stripe together with Polygon, created a new initiative for content creators on Twitter to be able to accept payments in USD Coin (USDC).

“Creators, freelancers, salespeople, and solopreneurs are building and creating around the world. While it's easier than ever to find customers and fans, getting paid can still be difficult, especially outside of key markets.

Stripe Connect is here in part to solve this problem. Today, businesses around the world use Connect to programmatically send payments to more than 70 countries in local currencies.

“Today, we are introducing crypto payments for Connect. With crypto payments, a select group of content creators on Twitter, our first partners will be able to use cryptocurrency-based rails to receive their earnings from Twitter."

Product Lead for Creators, Twitter, Esther Crawford says Twitter is a place where people have conversations about what's going on.

"We're focused on helping the creators who drive those conversations make money and connect with their audiences in new ways. We're excited to start offering creators crypto payments through Stripe so they have more choices about how they get paid."

With crypto payments for Connect, Twitter will allow creators who choose to receive their payments to a cryptocurrency wallet.

Crypto payments will occur through the Polygon network, a blockchain linked to Ethereum that allows for faster and more efficient transactions. After receiving their earnings, they can choose to keep their balance in Polygon, or exchange it for another currency.

Stripe also said they expect to support crypto payments in more than 120 countries by the end of this year, but it's unclear when they plan to expand this feature to customers outside of Twitter.
