JAKARTA – The government through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with PT Huawei Tech Investment. This collaboration is related to the use of information technology in the development of tourism and the creative economy.
"This collaboration is a joint effort to welcome the new economic order after the COVID-19 pandemic and can strengthen support for the recovery and growth of the tourism industry and the creative economy that is competitive, superior, and resilient," said Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno in a statement quoted by Antara in the District. He said that his party was very happy because after some time of discussion finally reached an agreement to work with Huawei as an institution to partner in various fields in an effort to revive the tourism sector economy and the creative economy.
"This is to increase connectivity and as part of entering into our economic order, namely a digital-based order," he said.
To support the development of digital products in the field of tourism and the creative economy, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has carried out various activities, namely the Father of Creative Economy Development Day (BDD), Father of Creative Arts for Digital Talent (BDT), and Father of Creative Economy for Startups (Bekup).
BDD is carried out to strengthen the digital ecosystem, bridging local developers with the latest technology platforms to develop digital products, especially applications, games, and the web as well as the Internet of Things (IoT).
"The cooperation we are exploring is the BDT, Bekup, BDD programs so that we can connect this startup with SPARK, which is a program from Huawei," said Sandiaga.
Menparekraf revealed that Huawei has 200 thousand workers of which 2,000 workers are in Indonesia. Huawei has an important role to play in connecting tourism destinations and creative economy centers with digital services.
"The digital economy will be the pillar of the economy and the creative economy will be the locomotive. We hope that this collaboration can directly and concretely produce several breakthroughs for economic revival and opening up employment opportunities in the creative economy sector," he said.
