JAKARTA - Twitter is currently improving its social media by testing the closed caption (CC) button for video uploads.

This text is found when a user views a video in the Twitter feed, which automatically activates when the audio is muted, and disappears when clicked or the volume is turned on.

Fortunately, Twitter has now overcome this with the presence of the CC button. The company mentions that this button is already available for a small number of iOS users, and will be coming to Android users in the future.

Twitter is said to be testing a new feature for videos that already had captions available in the first place, giving users the option to turn it off or on.

Later, a CC button will appear in the upper right corner of the video when the user pauses it, signaling the user to activate it if they wish.

This new button basically serves a dual purpose, both allowing users to enable captions (where possible) while also telling them which videos actually have captions.

In December 2021, Twitter added automatic captions to videos, which only show when people adjust accessibility settings on their phones.

While they do allow more people to engage with video content uploaded on Twitter, it doesn't help that captions are muted when users play audio.

Launching Digital Trends, Saturday, April 23, placing the CC button will give everyone, especially the deaf, the ability to better understand the videos uploaded on the platform.

Twitter's latest test of accessibility features comes two weeks after rolling out alternative text badges and open image descriptions globally for the benefit of visually impaired users.

The global rollout of these features resulted from a month of bug fixes and feedback from a select group of users.

Meanwhile, the social media giant is also planning to add the long-awaited edit button, which it will test on Twitter Blue subscribers in the coming months.

Apart from giving users the ability to correct grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors in their tweets after upload, Twitter is also working on another new feature codenamed Vibe, which will allow them to set their status la AIM and Facebook.
